Discover Our Vegan-Friendly Wine Selection
At Galvin La Chapelle, our Head Sommelier, Stephen Nisbet, has meticulously identified and highlighted a superb array of vegan-friendly wines within our cellar.
What Makes a Wine Vegan-Friendly?
The inclusion of animal-derived substances during the winemaking process is a detail frequently overlooked, even by the growing number of guests making conscious ethical and dietary choices.
Historically, winemakers have relied upon several traditional fining agents. These are favoured because they clarify the liquid without imparting any unwanted flavour or altering the wine’s natural hue:
Isinglass (fish bladders)
Gelatine
Blood and bone marrow
Egg whites
Milk proteins
Fish oil and shellfish fibres
These agents act primarily as a filter, removing organic particles that might otherwise compromise the wine’s clarity, texture, and flavour.
Today, an increasing number of progressive producers are adopting mineral and plant-based alternatives, such as bentonite clay, silica gel, and natural plant proteins, ensuring their vintages are entirely vegan-friendly.
