What is the closest train station and how can I get to the restaurant from there?
The closest station is Chelmsford train station, which is not within walking distance. A taxi before 11pm costs on average £18.10 to the restaurant, or you can use the bus that stops once an hour down the road from Galvin Green Man, with the last bus service back to Chelmsford at 22:43. Local residents can also use DigiGo via the TravelEssex app for on-demand or pre-booked journeys.

Is there parking at Galvin Green Man and do you offer accessible parking?
Yes, there is a large car park on site. There are also two clearly designated accessible parking spaces directly in front of the main doors of the restaurant. Off-road parking on the kerb is permitted but vehicles are left at the owner’s risk. Over weekends, bank holidays and event dates, there is an over-flow carpark next to the pub which is clearly signposted.

Is Galvin Green Man wheelchair accessible and do you have accessible toilets and baby-changing facilities?
The bar and restaurant are wheelchair accessible via the main entrance, and the pub is accessible using its own main entrance and ramp. To reach the restrooms from the pub, the easiest route is to exit via the front, go around, and re-enter through the main front door as the pub is up two steps from the main bar and restaurant entrance. There are accessible toilets on site, and baby-changing facilities are provided within the accessible toilets.

What is the dress code at Galvin Green Man and do you have an area for pre-dinner drinks?
Smart casual. For pre-dinner drinks, there are a few seats at the bar and two sofas in the reception area; if there is space, you can also sit in the pub at any unreserved tables. The garden is available for drinks all year round

Can I bring my own wine or Champagne, or visit for drinks only?
Guests may bring their own wine or Champagne with a corkage charge of £25 per bottle of wine and £35 per bottle of Champagne. Reservations are for dining guests only. If you wish to come just for drinks, you are welcome to walk in and use the pub, bar, garden, and terrace

How do you handle birthdays and celebrations, including cakes?
You are welcome to bring your own celebration cake, but a £4 per person “cakeage” fee applies if you choose to have your cake instead of ordering desserts. If you do not bring a cake, the team can present a special celebration chocolate plaque on your chosen dessert, with a birthday message, please let the team know of the guest’s name in advance. You can also pre-order a chocolate buttercream cake from the restaurant (small or large) with a minimum of five days’ notice by emailing receptiongreenman@galvinpubco.com.

Are children welcome and do you offer facilities or a menu for them?
Children of all ages are welcome at Galvin Green Man. Highchairs are available on request when you make your reservation, though on very busy days not all requests can be accommodated. There is a children’s menu available for guests up to the age of 10. Due to a large volume of guests on a Sunday, we ask that no pushchairs are bought into the restaurant.

Do you allow dogs and in which areas of the venue are they permitted?
Dogs are welcome in the pub, bar area, and all outdoor areas, including the garden and terrace. Dogs are not permitted in the main restaurant or in the four private dining rooms located on the first floor. Exception for guide dogs in all areas.

What style of food do you serve and do you cater for vegetarians and vegans?
Galvin Green Man serves a classic British style of cuisine. We cater to both vegetarians and vegans across our menus.

Can you cater to allergies or dietary requirements?
Galvin Green Man is a fresh food kitchen, making it possible to cater to most allergies & dietary requirements (excluding special event menu’s). Please ensure you make us aware when making a reservation. Do you offer a set (Bib Gourmand) menu and are there any conditions?
Yes, there is a Bib Gourmand set menu showcasing Michelin’s “good quality, good value” offering, available at specific lunch and dinner times. It is priced at £32 for two courses and £36 for three courses and is available for groups of up to six guests, but not in the private dining rooms. Set menu gift vouchers are only valid for this menu during the stated service times.

Do you offer private or group dining and what is the chef selection menu?
Galvin Green Man has four private dining rooms on the first floor, accessed via 12 steps with handrails on both sides and their own upstairs bathrooms, accommodating groups of 8–14 guests with a minimum of two courses per person; for smaller groups wanting a private room, a minimum spend will apply. Parties of 14–18 guests can be accommodated in the semi-private Communal Room on selected days, while larger groups may require exclusive hire of the restaurant or pub with an agreed minimum spend arranged directly with the venue. For parties of more than eight adults, a chef selection menu is used, created on the day from seasonal, fresh ingredients, typically offering three starters, three mains, and three desserts drawn from the à la carte; on Sundays, the mains will include Sunday roast options such as beef, chicken and pork.

What are your policies for larger parties, cancellations, and vouchers?
For restaurant and terrace dining, cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice, or no-shows, incur a fee of £20 per person; private dining room bookings have a two-week cancellation policy. Galvin Green Man accepts Glu vouchers purchased via its own website, and third-party vouchers from Virgin Experiences. You can purchase Galvin vouchers via our gift shop on our website.

For reservations of more than 8 guests, please submit your enquiry / booking request via our private dining room link on our website as parties of these sizes will be accommodated in one of these areas rather than our main dining room or pub. Unfortunately our AI is unable to access our large table / events bookings system.

Do you have events at Galvin Green Man:
We have a monthly pub quiz and live music evenings. We also have on-going events throughout the year such as our Galvin Book Club where we welcome guest chefs, as well as wine dinners and celebratory events. You can see the dates for everything on our ‘What’s On’ page on our website where you can also directly book. Our pub quiz falls on the second Wednesday of every month at 7pm and our live music is every last Friday of the month at 7pm in our pub.

Do you serve a traditional Sunday lunch?
Yes we serve a Sunday Roast every Sunday lunch. Options normally include beef, chicken and pork and are served with duck fat roast potatoes, honey glazed carrots, Hispi cabbage and a Yorkshire pudding. The Sunday menu also includes seasonal dishes and vegetarian options.

Can you give me the price for the most expensive and most affordable bottle of wine on your menu:
Our most affordable bottle of red and white wine is £35 a bottle. This can go up to roughly £20 for a more premium bottle

Can I request a specific table or seating?
You can make a request as to a particular table or type of seat (e.g. chairs, bench, armchair, sofa seating) and we will do what we can to accommodate where possible. We cannot accommodate requests for separate bookings to be seated next to each other.
